History :
Shinji is a unique boy and had a not-so-good relationship with his father, Ikari Gendou. His father left him alone as an infant, shortly after the death of his wife, Ikari Yui. Shinji was left behind at his foster parent's house.
He grew up hating his father. Surprisingly when he was about 14, his father sent him a letter and told him to go and see him in Tokyo-3. Shinji thought that he could make up with his father and live with him as father and son. Unfortunately, his father's mind is somewhere else, Gendou asked him to come just to become an EVA pilot.

His
father was way too far for him to reach. Shinji's heart is longing
for someone to care for him. Luckily, he met Katsuragi Misato,
a high-ranked NERV officer. She takes good care of Shinji
and acted as his guardian. He and Misato have something in common,
including the relationship with their fathers. At NERV, Shinji is introduced to Ayanami Rei, a mysterious young girl, who seems to be very close to his father, Gendou. In her, Shinji finds sympathy and motivation. Later, he met Asuka Langley. They live together at Misato's. But Asuka seems to envy him and there's competition among them. On the contrary, Shinji is attracted to her, but refuses to accept this feeling and tends to run away from that feeling. |
